In February 2008 the WWP (Wounded Warrior Project) chose the Wildcatter Ranch as a venue for their 'Project Odyssey'  this project involved 21 veterans of war with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) spending three days at the ranch, away from their routines, lifestyle and families to concentrate on themselves, their stresses and building a foundation to start the rest of their life.

Those three days were an amazing opportunity to watch individuals heal, overcome and embrace others.  Casey and I, plus the whole team at the Wildcatter, including the vast local support from Graham,  were truly blessed to be a part of this event and join in getting to know the group.  Three days were not enough but at the same time they were plenty.

In just three short days scenes changed from guys on their first morning looking at you as if they were looking straight through you, with sunken eyes and tight expressions, to on day three were hugging, cheering, smiling and laughing with each other!  It emphasized that life struggles truly vary hugely from person to person, state to state.  It really makes you appreciate everything you have to hear some of their stories, as well as chide yourself and promise to complain less, try harder and help more.

Take a few minutes to look through the photo albums of our friends who joined us on Project Odyssey, enjoy the happiness that is prominent in the pictures and see the glow of healing from this wonderful group of guys, for without them we'd be a whole lot worse off.

Casey and I plan to do a lot more of this worthwhile 'work' in the future, we'll keep you all updated as we progress with our plans.

This project has really enlightened us to the double meaning in our motto we so strongly believe in:  "To Better The Horse Is To Better The Rider"  We believe this motto is so true in all aspects of Horsemanship and Life!  Horses are very agile athletes and a rider with limited knowledge can hinder the horse, we believe in order for your horse to reach his/her full potential you need to be as good and well informed as possible so you are able to offer the horse the best opportunities to be the best they can be.  We also believe this Motto so true in 'Life' as you need to be the best person you can be, both for yourself and everyone around you in order to make your ride through life as enjoyable as possible.  You are in control of your life, but you cannot improve it without first looking within and improving on yourself as you ride and drive!
